Why We Built This Site
South Carolina does not place every criminal record in one public database. Edgefield County Detention answers current-custody questions by phone, while the Clerk of Court maintains General Sessions files and the Public Index displays many docket events. SLED operates the fingerprint-supported state repository and CATCH name search. The South Carolina Department of Corrections covers current state-prison custody, and SORT provides the public registry. The county’s official profile and department directory add local context and current routing. This site was built to distinguish those sources, state what each can and cannot show, and place verified contacts and request steps within easy reach.

What We Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference site, not an Edgefield County or South Carolina government service. It has no authority over a court, sheriff, police department, jail, or state repository. Those limits mean the site cannot:
- Retrieve a criminal record or perform an official background check
- Submit an expungement application, FOIA request, or court filing for a reader
- Certify a docket, disposition, criminal history, or other government document
- Give legal advice about a charge, warrant, sentence, or eligibility for relief
- Guarantee that an agency’s address, hours, fee, or procedure has not changed
An official record must come from its custodian, such as the Clerk of Court, Sheriff Records, or SLED. This private site can identify a route but cannot issue the document.
Search Partners
Independent providers power search boxes that appear on some pages. Each provider controls its service, results, prices, terms, and privacy practices. A paid signup reached through one of those tools may generate a referral payment that supports free access to this site. Edgefield County Criminal History does not set partner charges or decide which records a partner returns. Population context comes from the Census Bureau’s Edgefield County QuickFacts and place comparison, not from a search partner.
